Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Catalytic convertor on Mountaineer, catalytic convertor, muffer

Hi,
I have a 1997 Mountaineer and I believe the catalytic convertor is clogged up.

Can you tell me where it is, what it looks like, and how to replace it?

I've seen ones listed as front, back etc. so I'm confused.  Is there only one on this truck?

it is right on the front cross over pipe it looks like a small muffer.
it is under the front of the car.
When bad will smell like rotton eggs .
that is a good sing .
When they are bad
