Lincoln/Mercury Repair: CAR ONLY STARTS IN NEUTRAL?, grand marquis, linkage

We Have a 1991 Grand Marquis that has been running fine until yesterday when stopped at a light it started acting like it wanted to die out. I put it in neutral until the light changed and when I put it back into drive it died out. Then i could only start it in neutral and it was sputtering.  I got it home and turned the car off. When trying to start again I got the same thing it would not start in park only in neutral, but when you put it in drive, park or reverse from neutral it kills the motor?  Any suggestions would really help.

this is a bad neutrial saftey switch or a linkage adj. i would bring it to a shop and have them check it out the staling is from the the tranny . it will do this because the compuiter will cause the car to stall when in neu. good luck to u hun and u hab\ve a pretty name pete
