Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1998 Mercury Sable Wheel Bearning Replacement, front wheel bearing, goodyear tires

Question
I have a 1998 Sable sedan FWD, V6 small engine, 50,000 miles, brakes fine, that makes a continual loud "whine" while driving, coming from the left front.  The “whine” gets louder as I speed up then levels off.  "Whine" continues when I put car in neutral and let it coast. I do not notice any wishy-washiness when turning corners. Put new Goodyear tires (from Sam's) on car about 3 months ago.  Did not have the noise before or after doing so until about 1000 miles ago (now about 2500 miles since new tires).  Car runs and handles fine. I assume the problem is the left front wheel bearing needing replacement.  If so, what are the steps for doing so --  I plan to replacement myself?  Thank you.

PS: What would a Mercury service department charge to make replacement?
