Lincoln/Mercury Repair: change transmission oil, automatic transmission fluid, mercury sable

Question
I have been driving General Motor cars until 3 years ago.I would have 2 cars. When the oldest car reached 100,000 miles I would trade and drop the old one down as my 2nd car. Three years ago I got a better deal on a Mercury Sable. It now has 36,000 miles and the dealer recommended changing transmission oil at a cost of $100.00 plus dollars. I never had this presented to me when I was driving General Motors and had no problem with the transmission. Is it essential to change the transmission in a Mercury? Thanks Jack

Answer
Jack, if you have an automatic transmission then you probally have one that has to be flushed out and then change the fluid.it is reccomended that you change the automatic transmission fluid in any make of car but you can get it done cheaper somewhere other than the dealer.thanks for the question and hope ive helped.
