Mazda Repair: 1990 Miata will not start, engine cranks, fuel pump relay

Question
I have a 1990 Miata that I have owned for two years. I went to start it last week after it had been running fine, and it wouldn't start. The engine will crank fine, and I checked for a spark by inserting a metallic rod into the number one spark plug wire. Sparks pulsed from the rod to the engine block as the engine cranked. I noticed that the fuel pump made no noise as I cranked the engine, so I checked all fuses both under the hood and under the dash on the driver's side. I have replaced both the fuel pump and the fuel filter. Still, no noise from the brand new pump after replacement. A little upset by now, I've even replaced the yellow fuel pump relay under the dash...same scenario..engine cranks, but no fuel pump noise is heard and the engine will not start. I now suspect the alarm system that the previous owner had disconnected before selling the car. It looks like a 5x7 black box with 50 or so wrapped wires going into and out of the box. Please help, I'm at my wits end with the problem.

Answer
if all the relays and the fuses are ok and it's a new pump you may have a wiring issue. check for power at the main connector you should have 2 power sources. try using the connector ground sometimes a bad ground is also the problem if you don't have power check the wiring for shorts

also if it did have a security system some do disable the fuel system make sure that hasn't happened
