Mazda Repair: Mazda 96 626 Troubleshooting, tps sensor, ohm meter

Question
QUESTION: After a cold start, the car runs fine for a little while before the tachometer starts jumping all around, up and down, causing the car to jerk a bunch. Eventually, the car will turn off as the rpm's hit zero.  I have to restart the car while driving.  If I ride the clutch, keeping the rpm's at idling level, it doesn't seem to skip as much, though sometimes it dies here to.  I can't think of what it could be.  Any ideas?

ANSWER: check your tps sensor and the air filter and make sure the fuel filter isn't cloged those are the start areas

QUESTION: Checked fuel and air filters, all OK

how would you check the TPS sensor... is there a way to know if it is working properly? Can it be adjusted?

Thanks!

Answer
you need an ohm meter to check resistance as you open it and close it manually most of them can be adjusted by loosening the 2 screws on it and moving it, you can also try a cleaning agent ask your parts dealer what one is best for you and clean it. they have to be adjusted properly and follow the specs from the OEM you can purchase a repair book normally with the information and specs for your car
