Mazda Repair: Hooking up a horn, beep beep, srs system

Question
QUESTION: 90 Miata 5 speed
I found that horn was disconnected from the steering wheel.  It looks as they ran a aftermarket horn with one wire through cabin and wire is just hanging.  Where can I hook it up to.  When I push the horn button, it makes sound like something is clicking on.  on separate note, my airbag light blinks five time and repeats.

ANSWER: The horn wiring at the wheel is interconnected to the air bag system so use extreme caution.

If you can depress the horn button and hear the relay clicking under the dash then there is no need to modify or disrupt the factory wiring at the column.

The OEM horn is located in front of the condenser passenger side of the hood latch.  A single green/red wire energizes the horn and it grounds through the header panel via it's mounting bracket.  Most issues with the horn are ground related, a poor ground will keep the piezio style horn from sounding (beep beep).  If you use a circuit tester and can determine a ground and a 12v signal exist then the horn may be bad, it happens.  A like replacement will use the same power amperage.

The Hella (the REAL German version) 500MHz dual air horns can be added (custom kit set up for a Miata $45), they can be operated directly via the OEM 12 volt lead (8 amps), if your a heavy horn user a separate relay addition is suggested which requires an sub harness (about $20) (boosts to 20 amps).  Makes other know your definitely there when used.

If it is repeating "five flashes" then pause, then repeat and it has been doing this for some time.  The most common cause is a faulty D-sensor or crash sensor.  You have three.  The SRS system would need to be disabled and each D-Sensor tested for proper resistance to determine which is at fault.  In many cases a poor ground at the sensor could be the fault.  Once again it is not recommended to attempt to service an SRS system.  Only  qualified technicians familiar with the proper safety protocols should service the system.  Serious bodily injury or death could occur as well as property damage from stored power or even static electricity allowed within the system.

D sensors range from $50 (used) to $160 (new).

QUESTION: The horn wire to steering column is not connected.  I hear the clicking under the dash. I need to know where to connected under the dash.  thank you.

Answer
The orange connector with the green/red wire is the horn wire coming from the clock spring assembly which is the assembly where your turn/light signal/wipe controls are.  The blue connector is the SRS signal and trigger wire.  Use caution, the SRS is interconnected through the horn circuit.

If your pushing the horn button(s) and getting a clicking from the relay (under the dash) then it is connected, check for 12v at the horn then trace backwards from there to the relay.  Green/red (striped) wire.
