Mazda Repair: springs, bargain hunt, chamfer

Question
Hi its ron again; just recieved racing beat springs and was reading the instructions; do not fully tighten after installation just finger tight; lower car; push down and then tighten fully; make sure you shave bump stop; make sure this piece is facing a certain way;make sure of this and that!! i didnt know springs were that complicated to install!! something tells me the guy thats doing this for me is going to screw this up. tell me its not as complex as they make it seem. should these instructions be followed to the letter. how much do you shave off bump stop.

Answer
Racing beat is very specific about this subject.  You should refer to the instruction sheet.  You will remove roughly 3/8" from the top and chamfer each at a 45 degree angle for best fitment.  You should always final torque suspension parts with the weight of the car on it.  Be sure you find a shop familiar with the Miata and with Miata suspension tuning.  Don't bargain hunt in this area or you'll get what you pay for.
