Mazda Repair: 96 miata m edition, fuse block, kick panel

Question
My Miata's wipers were happily going back and forth in the rain and then suddenly stopped, standing straight up. Also at exactly the same time I realized my ac, tho it does still blow, is no longer blowing cold. Is this a coincidence? Is is a problem with a fuse. I am out of work, and do not have a lot of money to have a shop diagnose unless I need to. Have spent a bit on it lately. Thanks.

Answer
Obviously a fuse is the first step in diagnostics.  Check theses; 20a "wiper" fuse and the 15a "engine" fuse both driver's kick panel fuse block.  Also check the 20a "ad fan" fuse, under hood main fuse block.

The ignition switch itself can be a source of failure of the wiper circuit however, normally the blower fails to work also with this particular fault.  If the AC is blowing just not cold than the AC itself could have other issues and the ignition switch may not be your situation.  Based on what you tell me I don't have enough information to elaborate.

If manipulation of the ignition switch causes the wipers/blower to react intermittently then IGN switch is the issue.  If so replace the ignition switch and be sure to lighten your key chain as heavy key sets tend to cause these contact issues.
