Mazda Repair: 98 Millenia, solenoid design, cable design

Question
My daughter can't get her key out when she turns her car off. Also the gear shift won't lock & both these things happened at the same time. Any idea what happened???

Not my area of expertise however, there is a shifter lock solenoid or cable pin lock that must engage for the key to be removed.  If it is a cable design it could be an adjustment at the shifter if the solenoid design then the part may be failing of a connection.
