Mazda Repair: 1995 Mazda Protege vibration @ stop/idle, mazda protege, term maintenance

Question
I have a 1995 Mazda Protege that vibrates like crazy when I am stopped.  I have to shift to neutral to keep my teeth from rattling.  It doesn't do it in park - only in drive when stopped.  I have tried turning off the AC to see if that makes it stop but it doesn't.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Not in my area of expertise.  Possibly an ignition misfire, low speed miss.   If you haven't recently, replace the spark plugs and ignition wires, use NGK.  If it is a cap and rotor distributor then change them also.  This is a basic tune up and will likely solve your problem.  If not then its good long term maintenance.  If it won't maintain a smooth idle and bogs down when you turn on the AC an ICV (idle control valve) could also cause these symptoms though the ignition work is your best 1st course of action.
