Mazda Repair: AC Constant clicking, air still very cold, 93 MX6, excessive air, ac compressor

Question
Hello Experts!

I have a constant clicking noise from (I assume) the AC compressor when I turn on the AC. It seems rather loud, perhaps even louder than the "click" typically heard when the clutch engages.

Despite this, the AC still blows very cold. I'm thinking perhaps the clutch is wearing out? If this sounds correct, how would I find out what type of compressor this is and source a clutch for it?

I really don't want to replace the compressor and have a shop do a grand of work on this thing if it's something I can repair.

Thanks!

Answer
It could be over charged causing the high pressure switch to cut it on/off or it could be freezing and the temperature sensor could also be cutting the compressor on/off.  Excessive air in the system from "can" charges can also create this.  Look at the compressor while it's running and see if the clicking is actually the clutch engaging/disengaging.  Is it still R12 or have you converted to R134a.
