Mazda Repair: 5 speed manual trans issues, mazda protege 5, clutch replacement

Question
"Hello! I have a 1993 mazda protege 5 speed (manual trans). With the
motor running, I depress the clutch and it feels like nothing but a
spring is attached to it, also I can shift into any gear with ease with or
without the clutch engauged but I get "Zero" pull.  Its as if the motor
was off.  Can you give me an idea as to what the problem might be?"

Answer

You need a clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing.
The clutch has gone kaput and is no longer able to engage the flywheel. It is not a job you should attempt to do yourself unless you are tempted to remove the transmission and flywheel yourself.

You will need a clutch pack "includes everything needed to do a clutch replacement" and you will need to have a machine shop resurface the flywheel.

You may also find that when you get into the process of removing the clutch and flywheel that you find an oil leak at the back of the crankshaft or at the input shaft of the transmission. This must also be fixed at this time or the clutch replacement will be a moot point.
