Question -
I have a MX6 93 V6 excellent condition change the freon regulary with the new type, the other day I heard some noise when the AC switch in on but when the AC is off nothing ... the noise is sort of a rattling sound... the air conditioning is working at around 55F... could help me on this
thanks JP

Answer -
Hi Jp thanks for asking!
It is not necessary to cahnge freon at all, It doesnt wear out, the problem I think that you are having is a compressor clutch wearing out, The compressor will make a rattling noise when worn out with the ac clutch off because the clutch is not engaged and it is just free standing, When there is pressure on the clutch the rattling will stop.
Good Luck

Answer
You can get a new clutch for it and have it replaced, but I think it might be a little easier to see if you could get it retrofitted with a new compressor and the newer style refrigerants without breaking the bank as finding just a clutch for that compressor I believe will be almost impossible and if available will be quite expensive. It is sometimes cheaper to replace the compressor than just the clutch.

As for the refrigerant portion of Chris’s reply, he is right. However; the oil in the system does wear out and over time the gas becomes contaminated by the eventual leaks in the system that always show up. I think it is time to do a compressor and a flush with new oil and a fresh charge of 134A.

John
