Mazda Repair: Car wont start, shredded to pieces, car wont start

Question
I have a 1994 mazda 626.  I was driving it home the ohter day and both the alternator and the powersteering belt shredded to pieces.  I then changed both belts and tried to start the car and it wouldnt start.  The car also overheated before i was able to stop and there was antifreeze pouring out of the car.  The radiator nor the water pump was leaking so i was guessing that it was coming from the overflow resvoir.  I also thought that it might be the battery so i went and bought a new one but it didnt help any.  Also one more thing Whenever you try to start the car there is a heavy gas smell.   Oh yeah we took the air filter off too and there is a gas smell inside of the air filter.  So help me if you can  Thank you

Answer
Hi Ray thanks for asking,
This sounds like the timing belt may have snapped, when the engine overheats there is a possiblity of the engine starting to seize up, if this is the case and the cam or crank starts to seize it will put alot of pressure on the belt(s) the smell of gas would sort of make me think that the timing is now out, but this engine is not an interferance engine so you can just get away with getting a new timing belt, if it is not the timing belt then get back to me, i can help guide you in the right direction, just send me more info.
Good luck
