Mazda Repair: Air conditioner keeps kicking in and out, mazda protege 5, mazda protege

Question
I have a Mazda Protege 5, 2003 model (my first Mazda in the summer).  The Air Conditioner will go on and off and everytime it comes on my car really looses power. Sometimes it will quit blowing cold air until I rev up the engine or play turn it on and off several times.
Is it normal for Mazda's to take a lot of power when using air conditioning?  I have filled the freon up to normal but dont know of anything else.

The AC will take a little bit of power while on but it is usualy not that noticle, is the compressor OK?  When the AC pupm cycls llike that that usualy means that there is either too much or too little freon in the system, or there is a slight possiblitly of having to much AC oil in the systek, Try discharging the system and drain the oil out, put the system on a vacuum and put in 5-6 onzes of oil, then recharge the system and recheck. get back to me with your results,
