Mazda Repair: 2000 - 2003 Mazda Protege Transaxle, mazda dealer, mazda protege

Can the tranxale for a 2000 Protege 1.6 liter 5 speed be bolted up to a 2003 Protege 2.0 liter 5 speed? The 2003 Protege has a low gear ratio and it really gets up and goes. If it can be bolterd up, can you tell me what I need to know to swap them out.  I was a certified auto tech so I do have quite of bit of experience in auto repair.

HI robert thanks for asking,
Im sorry to say this but I do not think they are interchangeable, both block have a different style to them, And the clutches are different on both. the only way to tell is to match them up, go to the mazda dealer and ask them for a diagram on both transmissions and see if they match up, if they do get back to me and i will send you some info on how to swap them and the possible modifications you are going to have to make.
