Mazda Repair: Scratching clutch sound, clutch fluid, clutch plate

Question
I have a 2002 Mazda Protege with 145000 miles on it.  Recently I noticed that with the windows down I can hear a scratching noise when the clutch is engaged.   When the clutch is depressed it goes away.  It appears to be getting louder.  The brake/clutch fluid is full.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Ryan thanks for asking
I cant be 100 percent accurate on this, but this sounds like one of the vibration dampening springs on the clutch plate may have broken free, there are 4 springs located around the slot for the input shaft, these springs prevent vibration upon relaease of the clutch., It is possible that one of the springs are rubbing the flywheel, or there are two more possiblities, there could also be a internal problem with the transmission, there could be a worn bearing inside on the main shaft , that alwasys turns even in nuetral with the clutch engaged" pedal up". the next possibility is a worn through out bearing, this bearing is on the clutch release fork and this is common for this bearing to go,, the noise will go away with this problem as well when the clutch is depresed.
good luck
