Mazda Repair: DRIVE AND ALTERNATOR BELTS - LOUD NOISE, drive belts, pep boys

Question
Okay, Chris, I went to Pep Boys this morning to have the belts adjusted.  They found that the belt was not on there properly in other words the belth was not fitting in place but hanging over the side.  So they charged me $125.00 to change the belt and put it on correctly.  Then I was told that my A/C compressor was bad and that is what is making the noise.  He told me to drive without the A/C on and there would not be any noise.  I drive it some today and it is still making the same noise when I accelerate.  Do you have any advice as to what it could be?  My car have never sounded so loud.  I plan on taking it back to the dealership but I really don't want to keep paying an arm and a leg without solving the problem.  Please advise!

Question -
Chris,  I had to have my drive belt and alternator belt replaced on Saturday for my 2001 Mazda Protege LX 2.0.  Now whenever I start my car the belts make the very loud noise.  The noise also appears when I am driving some.  I purchased the belts from Auto Zone because I was in a desperate situation and did not have time to go to the dealer.  How can I stop this noise?  Please advise.

Hi Artela,,
if this noise was not present with the old belts then these new belts are either over tightened or too loose there is a certain specifiaction for how tight the accesory drive belts have to be. To stop this the belts will have to adjusted properly..
Good Luck

Answer
Hey again Artela
To get rid of this problem it sounds like you are going to have to replace the AC compressor. This is a common problem with the clutches or internal parts seizing up on the compressor, when it sticks the belt keeps trying to turn it but it cant so it just drags on the pully giving you that horrible noise.
Good luck
