Mazda Repair: 2.2 Mazda-1992, replacing head gasket, right cylinder

Question
repair manual doesn't show timing marks-replacing head gasket-how do you time it?  do not have a timing light.

Answer
Take a look on the crankcase pulley and somewhere on that pulley there should be a little line or an arrow or some kind of mark on it. Also somerwhere by that pulley there should be markings with some numbers on it and a big T on it. What you need to do is line up the markings or arrow on the crankcase pulley with the other markings but line the marking on the pulley with the "T" on the other markings. I'm not sure if you took your Camshafts off or not because of the head gasket you replaced but if you did then all you would have to do for that is make sure that the camshaft gears are on the right way and make sure that that marks on the camshafts are lined up evenly. After all of that and all of your markings are lined up properly. Your gona need to adjust the distributor so it is on the number 1 cylinder. Just look on the distributor cap for the right cylinder to put it on. Then to advance the timing you would turn the distributor housing counter clockwise and to retard the timing you would turn the housing clockwise. Hopefully this helped you out but if you got any more questions feel free to contact me anytime.
