Mercedes Benz repair: Slow to engage in Drive, tranny fluid, drive question

Question
QUESTION: When we reverse and then shift to drive, there is a 3 second delay before we here the "thump" of engagement. It is a 2002 E Class station wagon with 110,000 miles.  It seems to shift correctly after it engages but the delay and the "thump" have us concerned.  The transmission was serviced at 100,000.  Should we be worried? What needs to be checked and are we in for a major repair?

ANSWER: your k1 spring is faulty you may need to read this atricle

it is for a 201 but it should be relatively the same idea
The thump may need a minor adjustment or a major depending on who serviced your tranny I would suggest bringing it back to them

QUESTION: Thank you for the quick reply. I read the entire article and subsequent posts all seem to be for older models with shifting 1 to 2 or 3 to 4.  After it engages in drive it shifts properly.  What are you suggesting needs adjusting?  I think it has a 210 Type, A.T.(722.618)is it the same idea with K1 and K2 springs?

I really appreciate you help.

Answer
Sorry read the wrong numbers  check your tranny fluid also and maybe a clogged filter but if it was serviced they may have put a universal fluid in it  which is not recommended for MB cars

tell me what you think does the car do this when the tranny is cold and the fluid is not hot? try driving it a while and then put it in park and try it when the tranny is cold
