Mercedes Benz repair: 312d dashboard odometer, auto help, instrument cluster

the odometer has no display any more.  Makes the annual MOT test an impossibility!! The vehicle is approx 1996/1997.  Does the whole dash need to be replaced or does anyone have any other ideas for help please??  Thank you

I am not familiar with the 312 D (the D usually stands for diesel)
300 series . this is probably a Euro Version. I would have to see a photo of what is actually wrong with this cluster. Do you have the part number for that cluster?

If it is a backlight you would still see the numbers display. If you do not see the numbers that means that the matrix is out. The part number on the instrument cluster itself stamped on the back.
