Mercedes Benz repair: Removal of starter on 1984 380SE, auto help, socket 3

Question
My husband is having difficulty removing the old starter to replace it. There seems to be hardly any clearance to work. How do you reach it? What needs to be removed to access it. Thank you.

This a a hard job on this vehicle specially if you are trying to do this on the ground. You need a 8 or 10mm allen socket 3/8 drive with an impact swivel the you need a long extension that reduces from 1/2 to 3/8 drive and a long breaker bar. I recommend on this one you let someone that knows do it or be gentle and patient so that you do not cause any damage. If you are willing to do so . I will help you through it. Though you may spend more money on tools than paying someone to do it?
