Mercedes Benz repair: 300SD slow shift and hard 2&3rd and 3rd.&4th., vacuum source, vacuum lines

I just purchased this car a few weeks ago.  The car seems to be in fair shape with 255,000 miles.  The car shifts hard in 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.  Will this hard shifts pose any damage to the transmission and drive train.  Are there any vacuum adjustments that can be made that will smooth out shifts?

This vehicles transmission works with vacuum. Check that all the vacuum lines are routed correctly . Check for vacuum source. Also take into consideration the miles on this vehicle.
