Mercedes Benz repair: e430 not moving, shift linkage, shift rod

Question
Hello, I have a 2000 E430 automatic with 84K miles with no known problems , no knocks, no noise, no error display, no lights in the panel everything seemed to be working fine until Saturday.  I parked the car on my driveway then 3 hours later I started the car and it did with no problem like it always does then proceeded to put the stick in reverse but nothing happened the car did not move, I put it on Drive and the same thing happened the car did not move.  It seems as if the car is in "P" all the time and the stick is realy soft I guess because nothing is engaging.  Have you ever heard or seen anything like this what you think might be the problem? Someone sugested the solenoid and to check the tranny fluid what are your sugestions? thank You very much for your help.

Answer
I have seen this problem quite a few times and almost always, the problems is one little rubber bushing in the shift linkage that wears out and the shift rod pops out of place.
Run it by the dealership and they should be able to intall a new bushing for you and reinstall the linakge fairly quickly and it should not cost very much
