Mercedes Benz repair: MANUAL SHIFTING 240D 1982, clutch pressure plate, transmission shop

Question
SOMETIMES WHEN I SHIFT INTO REVERSE THE GEARS SEAM TO GRIND. NOT ALL THE TIME. SEEMS LIKE THE GEARS DON'T WANT TO CONNECT SMOOTHLY. SHIFTS WITH NO PROBLEM WHEN CAR IS NOT STARTED. IS IT LOW ON TRANS OIL ? OR WHAT

Answer
I assume it is a manual transmission.

Answer:
A bad clutch "pressure plate", throwout bearing and/or worn synchromesh gears (which allow you to shift even if the input and output shafts are rotating at a different speeds) could cause this issue.

The average generic transmission shop should be able to diagnose this.
