QuestionI recently bought a 1982 380 sec. And It will not start and run. My friends have told me to change the over load relay, full punp relay, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor. Then they told me to take it in. What is your advice?
Answer#1. Drain all of the fuel, replace with fresh, after refilling, bleed the air/fuel sludge out at the injectors.
#2. Replace the battery if it is more than two years old.
#3. Replace all fuses.
#4. Remove the air filter housing, and inspect inside for rodent nest.
#5. Test fuel pressure at the engine, it should be roughly 75 PSI, if it is not = a bad relay and/or fuel pump.
If you can do all of this, it will probably run.
Note:
If this where my car, I would replace the ignition coil, they where only tested for 100,000 miles or ten years.
DANGER:
If you use the wrong ignition coil; it can wreck the KE Control Unit and/or Ignition Control Unit.
