Mercedes Benz repair: auto tranny fluid leaking, drain pipes, wacky idea

Question
I have transmission fluid leaking from the passenger side of the engine.  This is a 1980 300 SD with an automatic transmission.  There is a tube shaped part that comes down, it looks like from the turbocharger, and at the bottom of that tube, the fluid collects and then drops to the ground.  This is no minor leak, I just don't know where it's actually coming from.  Going front to back, it's about halfway through the engine compartment on the passenger side.  What can this be and how do I fix it?  Thank you.
