Mercedes Benz repair: i really appreciate the reply...., waste vegetable oil, austin craig

Question
i really appreciate the reply. Its very helpful to have someone to ask questions to.

today i went to a church dinner and a guy had a 1983 300D. Gota say i was impressed. He drove me around in it and the turn radius was tight, acceleration good for a turbo diesel and the smoothness of the ride was very good.

so ive narrowed it down to the 300D (1982-85) or the 300SD (1979-85).

He had also converted it to run on vegetable oil.

Does this have any negative side effects on the car long term?

again, Thank you for your time and answers they are most appreciated.

Answer
Positive = lower fuel cost.
Negative effects of vegetable oil conversion.

If you are in a cold climate area, and it is not a heated system, you risk jelling fuel on cold days and/or can't use the system for part of the year.
If waste vegetable oil is used, extreme caution must be used as to where it comes from = please look through the following thread = this is a heavy topic, water = injection pump death, and the wrong fats will plug the fuel system. :)

Biodiesel and WVO - SVO links thread.
