Mercedes Benz repair: mercedes 1985 380sl, fuel pump relay, throttle linkage

Question
" Hi whunter,

I have a 1985 Mercedes 380SL.

I have replaced Brake power booster and brake vacuum hose as your suggested.

Now, the idle is high around 1000rpm at stop light. It is an effort to hold the car to stop it from moving to front car. Any suggestion? Thanks.

The following is previous questions:
1. When it runs over 40mph then I need to use the brake and release the accelerator pedal. The RPM drops and the engine dies sometimes. Especially when I try to get off the freeway.

2. When I use the brake to slow down before the stop light then try to let it idle cruise to the front car. The engine will surge untill it stops fully.

I have replaced the following:
idle control module
idle control valve
water temperature sensor
fuel pump relay.

Please help and have a greate New Year. Thanks.

Chester"

Answer
Sounds like someone has tampered with the base IDLE, throttle linkage and/or fuel mix.

You really need a MB tech to tweak it back down correctly, if it is fuel mix, you can do damage = $2,500.00 USD in parts.

If you still want to DIY, my suggestion is to join the SL Forum, you will need to do a lot of reading, before correcting the tampering.
