QuestionI own a 1985 300D Turbodiesel that has 250,000 + miles on it. I think that it lacks power (i.e. slower acceleration than it used to have)and I blame it on the turbo. My mechanic disagrees and says that the turbo is fine. I used to be able to notice the turbo kick in at around 2200 rpm, but now I don't see any difference is performance as the engine revs through that range. Otherwise, the car starts and runs great. Do the turbos gradually lose boost or could it be that I have gradually lost horsepower given the number of miles on the engine? Is there a way to test the turbo? What should I expect?
AnswerSounds like a diesel injection issue.
Start simple; Clean the Banjo bolt, fitting, manifold mounting hole and line.
