QuestionI have a 89 MB 300E with 130,000 miles. I'm in the Los Angeles area. The car can usually start without hesitation and runs okay. However, occasionally, the engine would stall when the car is stopped while waiting at a traffic light or at a stop sign.
I use the car every day going to work using surface streets, there is no highway driving. The car engine would quit about three to four times a week, always without warning and at traffic lights or stop signs. I noticed the engine idles at around 500 RPM (or a little below) when the engine dies. It would take at least three or four attempts to restart the engine again.
I've brought the car to two different mechanics for this particular problem. The parts replaced were: spark plugs, complete set of plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, distributor cap, and distributor rotor. The problem has not been resolved.
When the engine RPM is at 600/700 and above, the engine runs smoothly and never stalls. The car uses only premium gasoline and every month I put a bottle of fuel injector fulid in the gas tank. I thought the problem is related to fuel supply. However, I'm not too sure. Please help...

Unplug the Kickdown Switch (under gas pedal), and go for a drive, if stalling is gone, the switch is bad.
Test the Battery, Alternator and Voltage Regulator.
Have the Catalytic Converter checked for blockage.
