Mercedes Benz repair: mercedes diesel wont start, jumper cables, mercedes diesel

hi tim.i have a 1982 300 td wagon. i was driving from ny to dc when my glow plug light went on .when i got to dc the car cooled off and wont start.i checked the glow plug relay box and the single terminal that bolts to the box is melted. the 2 plug in terminals seem ok.the dash light will not come on.any help would be appreciated.i need to get home monday.thanks again.john p binninger

It appears that the switch failed and came on and stayed on. this is what burned the sytem up. You can use jumper cables to start the car. Connect to the batter and ground the negative side then connect the postive side to the glow plug connector then start the car.
