Mercedes Benz repair: excessive oil comsumption and poor gas mileage, poor gas mileage, o keefe

Question
This problem was repaired by the dealer by replacing the rings in my sister 2001 ML320 or is it 350 SUV.  She purchased the car as the second owner at 25,000 and at 27,000 complained of oil usage and they blew her off until I got involved at 47,000 miles. My position is now that on the dealers repair sheet they noted that four of the six cylinders had scoring (per their borescope) but yet they did not replace the long block as the O'Keefe class action law suite and Star bulletin stated to do.  I believe this to be a temporary repair at best as the rings need to form a seal against the crosspatch pattern of the cylinder walls and not allow the gases to pass  that will burn off the oil lub.(creating Carbon) causing the score or vertical lines to further enlarge and the original problem will return all over again at some future mileage.  Do you or can you point or supply me with any documentation regarding cylinder wall scoreing and the damage that will occur, that I can present to the dealer that will convince them to perform the correct and proper long-term repair.  Get this when I call MB USA they first state that 1qt. every 600 miles was within MB spec..  A qt. every 1 tank of gas is within spec. who are they trying to kid.  I believe that kind of stuff gives MB a bad name.

Thank you Joe S

Answer
I own a ML320 and it burns no oil. These engines are built with such high tolerances that they should run for 200,000 miles without burning any oil. There was obviously some contamination in this engine right from the factory. I would call 1-800-for-merc and ask to speak to The district Manager that handles that dealer. They should replace the engine.
