Mercedes Benz repair: 1986 560SL Brakes, hex head bolts, spindle nut

Question
Could you tell me how to change Brake pads & rotors on my car! Actually, my son will be doing it. Without even examining my car, a repair service gave me an estimate of $700.

Answer
Two bolts hold on the calipers. I believe they are 19mm. Remove the calipers on the front and then remove the spindle nut. Youe will need a set of hex head wrenches for this. You have to remove the hub from the old rotor. There are five hex head bolts holding this together. Replace rotors and use loctite on the bolts. Put rotor back on and then replace the pads in the calipers. There are two pins that hold the pads in, New pins come with the new pads.. You need a punch to remove the pins. Use ant squeak on the new pads before installation. Just reverse the process. The rear is easier. Follow the same procedure. There is no hub the rear rotor will just come off once the caliper is removed. Do not remove the brake lines are you will have to bleed the system. Good Luck and be careful. This is not something you want to take chances on.
