MG Car Repair: TF map lights

Question
Barrie,
I have a 1955 TF 1500 - HDP 46/8068 (do you know its "birthday")?
I have a question on the map lights. Both the bulb holders are loose in the under dash fittings. I have not been able to find replacements. Are there alternatives to the holders? Thanks so much for the help.

Answer
Hi David.

The TF map lights are clipped in to the holders.  They are held in place by six metal fingers.  If they are loose, take them out and carefully bend the fingers with a fine-nosed pair of pliers.

There are companies who make replacement bulb holders.  Moss Motors sell part number 142-400 which is identical, but they are quite expensive at $35 each.

I do have two that I could send to you.  With airmail postage it would cost US $20.

Contact me via www.tregister.org if you want them.

By the way, your TF1500 was built on November 17th 1954 and the owner is D Seufert.  Is that you?
