MG Car Repair: re sizing brake cylinders, brake cylinders, mgtf

Question
Barrie I have a 1954 mgtf that I am restoring I am member 1964 of the New England t registry. what size is the id of the sleeves and are they pressed in?  Thank you for any help  Garey

Answer
Hi Garey.  The 1953-55 TF brakes have alloy cylinders and steel pistons.  The bore size is 7/8 inches.  It is possible to get cylinders sleeved in stainless steel, but this is a recent development and there are no standards for the thickness of the sleeving.

This is a safety-critical component, so please get it done professionally by someone with liability insurance.
