MG Car Repair: 1973 mg mgb, plug holes, combustion chamber

Howard, compression is surly the answer to my problem.i did compression check and found #3 cylinder with 70psi took the head off you should see the piston it has 3 good sized chips on it.when i did the overhal it was fine.I must have dropped a bolt in cylinder and not realised this happend.so no need to linger on.thank you for the very timely answer.also I know that you know your Beans.       Richard

Thanks for the feed back and sorry to hear it is so major. Stuff happens. Seen several Jaguars that way, plug holes are at the bottom of a funnel shaped head on them. MG's usually get foreign objects like extra bolts, nuts and washers from one hiding in the intake manifold while it is off. We also got a few that had strange items dropped into an open plug hole by toddlers try to help dad fix it. ha!

Don't forget to check the valves on that cylinder as it don't take much of a hard thing in the combustion chamber to bend a valve too.
