MG Car Repair: MG TF Radiator, mg car club, b18b engine

Question
Hi Barrie,  I've had my 54 TF1500 (US) since 1972 & originally purchased w Volvo B18B engine. In the 80s I put the car back to original XPEG drive train. One thing I realized after all these years is that the original radiator (good shape) had the inlet -outlet pipes replaced to accomodate the Volvo. I'd like to get the radiator back to original. Need to unsolder Volvo pipes & replace with TD/TF pipes & orientation.  Where might I get TD/TF pipes or US shop that could fix? Hate to get a  $$$ replacement radiator. V difficult getting custom hose system to work "as is".
Also I'd like to buy copy of your Gearbox DVD if US playable. Also have bad ammeter....have a repair shop recommendation?

Thanks !

Bill

Answer
Hi Bill.   That's quite a list you have asked me:

1) In the UK there is a company named Serck that keeps all the engineering drawings for every radiator for every MG.  Perhaps they would sell you the necessary elbows?  Alternatively, I would obtain two 135 degree elbows in 28mm size and use those.  You would need to have some experience of brazing because lead solder is not strong enough to cope with the continuous movement.

2) My TF gearbox rebuild DVD is available from the MG Car Club T Register in both European and USA format.  You can order a copy via www.tregister.org

3)  In the UK there is a company named Speedograph Richfield.  They make all the old Smiths and Jaeger instruments using the original tooling.  Alternatively, I do have an old Smiths ammeter that is the right size and shape for a TF, but the face is CREAM.  If you are prepared to carefully remove the face of your ammeter and swap it over, this would solve your problem.  If you want a photograph of it, just ask.

By the way, your TF (TF4494) was built on 30th March 1954, and the original colour was Grey.
