MG Car Repair: 1979 MGB ELECTRICAL, stainless steel mesh, moss motors

Question
WATER DROP DOWN FROM AIR VENT , NOW THE FUEL GAUGE ,TEMPERTURE GAUGE ,TAC, AND ELECTRIC FANS DONT WORK

Answer
Hi George.

Before you fix the electrics you need to stop the water coming in via the air vents each side of the transmission tunnel.  Outside the car, between the wiper spindles, there is a large chromium plated air intake grille covering a big hole.  At the bottom of the hole there is a water outlet tube with a bulbous end that sticks out underneath the car.  The tube gets blocked with leaves and other muck, then the hole fills with water and eventually the water level gets so high that it comes out of the air vents.  You need to get a length of bamboo pole, round off the end, and then go fishing for the tube.  It is at one side of the hole or the other.  Push the bamboo pole down into the tube to open the bulb and let all the water out.  Moss Motors sell a stainless steel mesh that fits underneath the chrome grille and stops muck from getting in.  It costs less than $10.

I think your electrics have gotten wet and blown a fuse or two.  Under the bonnet (hood) there is a fusebox with 4 fuses, and nearby you will find some extra line fuses.  There may be one or two of them depending on when your car was manufactured.  Check all 6 fuses, because the items that have failed are not all wired to the same fuse.  There is also another one behind the radio.  That one is very difficult to get at.
