MG Car Repair: MG Turn Signal triggers Hazard Lights, turn signal switch, left turn signal

Question
QUESTION: When I try to use the turn signal on my 77 MGB the hazard lights turn on. If I try the left turn signal - the hazards come on. If I try the right turn signal - the hazards come on. Do I need to rewire everything? Or is this just a fuse? What do I do?
Thanks in advance - Richard

ANSWER: Hi Richard,

It does sound like either the hazard switch is wired wrong or the hazard switch has failed.

To confirm that the turn signal switch is wired ok just disconnect the flasher switch and connect a jumper wire from any power source and connect it to the green wire on the turn signal flasher unit. Then try the turn signals to see if they operate correctly. If they do then take your wiring diagram and check the connections of wires on the flasher switch to confirm that it is wired correctly. If it is wired correctly, then the flasher switch has failed.

If you don't have a wiring diagram, let me know and I will post one on my web site for you to copy.

QUESTION: Thx Howard

Can you please send that wire diagram.

Answer
Hi Richard,

Go to http://mg-tri-jag.net/76MGB1x1.jpg for the diagram and change the suffix to 76MGB21x1.jpg for the index to the diagram.

The 76 and 77 MGB is the same diagram other then in 77 there was a added circuit for over-drive. If you need that addition, let me know and I will post it too.

Any questions let me know.
