MG Car Repair: 78 MGB Wiring Harness, visible signs, mgb

Question
Hello,  Am looking to replace the main wiring harness in my 78 MGB and have an opportunity to purchase a used but completely functional one for $120, versus $440 for a new one.  Would you advise for or against a used harness, and do you know of any source for a new one at a lower cost than I mentioned?  Am asking this because I noticed in one of your answers that you could make a particular part.  Thank you

Answer
I would have no problems fitting a good used loom, but I would check it carefully for any visible signs of damage, and I would check that the wires to the alternator and to the coil do not have dry / brittle insulation.

There is a UK company called Autosparks who manufacture wiring looms.  They charge about £200 for a main MGB loom or £80 for the loom under the dashboard.  They also sell individual wires in any colour by the metre.

If you only need a small repair, I may be able to make it up for you.
