ANSWER: Hi Larry,

The Vin is about right for a 77 but I can't ID the engine number. Send me a couple of pictures of the engine and I may at least tell you if it looks correct for the car.

Midget engine #
QUESTION: Howard,
Here are some pictures of the engine bay. I hope they help answer my question.

Answer
Larry, I was not doubting your reading of the number. I needed to see what the engine looked like as I have rebuilt several late model Midget engines and I can at least ID that it is a late Midget engine if I can see the engine.

From 1975 on to the last Midget in 1979, they were Triumph Spitfire 1500cc engines, which I can recognize if I see one. I can't tell anything from your picture of the number.

Normally the Midget version of the 1500 had a "PE94J" prefix and Spitfire prefix was "FM".

In the dealerships I did run into odd prefixes on factory rebuilt exchange engines but I don't remember what they were.

Send me some pictures of the engine itself so I can see what it looks like. The only picture that came through is one of the engine number and I can't tell what the engine looks like from that one. Send them to my e-mail address.  fitzcharlesh@bellsouth.net
