MG Car Repair: Fuel Tank, bolt head, mounting bolt

I am redoing a 64B and after having the fuel tank redone/painted I can't get it mounted.  I can't get the mounting bolt into the strap, seems like it isn't long enough but every I've take apart is the same.  What is the secret?

Hi Robert,

Sometimes when using new rubber strip packing it will be tighter so just put a longer bolt in or you might just put a length of angle iron next to the bolt head and use a floor jack to force the end of the strap up close enough to get the bolt started. That usually requires some extra hands.
