MG Car Repair: Sticking Choke Cable, carburetors, mgb

Question
Hi Howard,
I have a 71' MGB, the choke was not connected when I purchased the car, but from pictures and answers from here, I was able to connect it correctly. before connecting the cable to the carburetors, I can pull out the choke knob, and the other end that connects to the carburetors will move up and down as it should, quite easily. But, when I connect the cable to the carburetors, I can not pull the choke knob at all, I can use pliers, but don't want to break something. I have reread many of your answers to correctly connect the cable, and looked at pictures to verify I have everything correct. I don't know what I am missing, can you help me? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Bryan,

The choke linkage at the carburetors is difficult to move even when it is working ok. First disconnect the cable from the carburetors linkage and operate the choke by hand at the carburetor and if it is too hard to operate you need to lube all the components until you can operate it by hand. Then take any kinks out of the cable and pull the cable out of it's housing and lube the cable and slide it back in and connect it up again to see if you can operate it with the cable.
