MG Car Repair: engine will not stay running, jumper wire, mgb

Question
I have a 1976 MGB that turns over, starts, but will not stay running. Any suggestion(s) or tips would be appreciated. Thank you

Answer
Hi Matthew
It could be a worn out ignition switch.  They can fail after nearly 40 years of usage.

There are 4 fuses in the fusebox.  Make up a short jumper wire and join the bottom 2 fuses together.  Now start the engine.  If it runs ok, then this confirms that the problem lies inside the ignition switch.  You will have to disconnect the jumper wire to stop the engine.

If this doesn't work, get back to me.
