MG Car Repair: mg midget 1975, dot 4 brake fluid, clutch release

Question
hey i have a 1975 mg midget the clutch has no commpression what should i do ?

Answer
Hi Justin

First look in the master cylinder reservoir (next to the brake reservoir) Add fluid (only DOT 4 brake fluid)

If it was low, pump the clutch in slow long strokes to see if you gain a pedal. Recheck the fluid level and fill again if necessary. If you do not gain any pedal look under the car to see if fluid is leaking on the ground. If you gain a little pedal but not up like it was, you will need to bleed the system. (bleeder valve is on the slave cylinder)

If the reservoir was full then you need to either rebuild the master cylinder and slave cylinder or check to see that the clutch arm is in tact by removing the slave cylinder and checking the arm in the bell housing. If the clutch release arm is all the way in, you have something broken inside and this requires that the engine and trans be removed to gain access.
