MG Car Repair: Dashboard removal, thumb screw, crows foot

Question
My next project on my 1974 MG Midget is replacing the throttle cable, choke cable, and the combination oil/temp gauge.  The most logical route would seem to be removing the dashboard.  I cannot figure out how to remove the dash. Can you please describe where the mounting screws/bolts are, or do you have a diagram I can access?  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Corey,

The removal of the dash is a large job as compared to taking out a choke cable and a oil/temp gauge.

The choke cable housing is held in with a 5/8" nut (a crows foot wrench works well) and the gauge is held in with a thumb screw. Undo the thumb screw and bracket and push the gauge out the front and then loosen the nut on the oil line. The temp gauge tube has to be removed from the head and fed all the way through the body and out the dash. Taking the dash out will not help at all.

If you are going to keep this car you need a service manual or you can wander into a lot of trouble trying to work on it.
