MG Car Repair: Rear springs, rubber pads, spacers

Question
Barrie, I'm restoring a '54 TF. Refurbish the rear springs or buy new ones? Would you recommend new or refurbished. I understand  new springs don't have rubber leaf spacers. Replacing these is the major cost of refurbishing. If the new ones don't have them do I need to replace them on the old springs?
Thanks

AJ

Answer
Hi Alan. The steel in your old springs will be of far higher quality than any modern replacement.  In the UK I would approach a company such as Brost Forge.  They can re-temper and rebuild your old springs.  They will also provide the interleaf rubber pads and inter-leaf spacers as required.
