MG Car Repair: Ignition light flicker, light flicker, voltage stabilizer

Question
After coming to a stop in my 73B the ignition light started to flicker, Reving the engine had no affect and the light continued to flicker.  After proceeding the light finally went out.  Also my battery doesn't want to keep a charge.  I use to have to recharge it after the car sits a week or more and now a day or two?  Is this a problem with the alternator, battery, voltage stabilizer???

Answer
Hi Dave.  Sounds like a faulty alternator to me.  Take your car to any good auto shop and get them to do a few basic electrical checks.  While you are there, get them to test the battery as well, to see if that is OK, because the design of the system is such that a bad battery can blow the alternator.  If you just replace the alternator, a bad battery can blow the new alternator.

By the way, the alternator on a 1970 MGB has an integral voltage regulator.
